Liability Insurance Coverage for a Vehicle

While choosing the right insurance policies throughout our lives, especially health, home, and automobile insurance, is a very important task, making those choices can be very difficult. For that reason, I decided to start a blog to help others learn how insurance policies can differ and which features and options make one policy a better choice than another during a specific life circumstance and/or when insuring a specific person or item. I first started dedicating myself to learning more about insurance policies when I was in an auto accident and learned that the auto insurance coverage I had chosen was going to leave me in a financial hardship; I had chosen very high deductibles and regretted it. I had to learn how to make good policy decisions the hard way, but I am dedicated to helping others make the right choices before a difficult situation pops up!

Auto insurance is something that many people try to avoid paying when they are living from paycheck to paycheck. The problem with not having auto insurance coverage is that it can get you into deep legal trouble, such as possible jail time depending on certain state laws. The reason is that there are penalties for driving without insurance coverage in most states, and some of them are more severe than others. It is not worth getting caught driving without insurance simply because of a low budget, as there is often an affordable way to obtain it. Basically, if you would like to insure your vehicle at the lowest rate possible, you should consider choosing liability coverage.

Does Liability Cover Expenses for All Parties?

A compromise that you will make by opting for liability insurance over full coverage is not being fully covered if you happen to get into a collision. Unlike full coverage that could cover you and the other party, liability will only cover the other party if you cause the collision. For example, all parties in the other vehicle that was injured due to you causing an accident can file a claim for their medical expenses. Liability also allows the other party to file a claim for financial help with the expense of repairing or replacing his or her vehicle. If your vehicle is damaged or you are injured, the expenses to recover it would have to come out of your own pocket.

How Much Money Can Other Parties Claim?

If someone that you collided with files a claim with your insurance provider under a liability plan, the amount they are compensated can vary. Basically, as with both full and liability insurance coverage, the amount of money paid for claims largely depends on the policy that you have. For example, it is possible to get a policy that pays all or most of a claimant's expenses. In such a case, it is less likely that you will get sued for additional expenses if you cause an accident. Speaking to an agent about which plans are available to you within your budget is a good step towards choosing the most ideal coverage.

What Can Cause a Liability Premium to Go Up?

Speeding and causing collisions are some of the common reasons why many people's insurance premiums go up. Not paying parking tickets can cause the premium to go up as well. If you drive safely and follow road rules, your premium will likely stay at an affordable rate.
